Due to rising temperatures in the UAE, authorities in Ajman have alarmed the motorists to practise safety measures in order to prevent vehicle fires. Fire safety in the UAE is a critical issue and concerns have been growing in relation to vehicle damage. The number of vehicle fires increase significantly during the summers that may result in loss of human lives, in addition to property damage. The UAE authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to look after their cars properly in order to prevent vehicle fires.

Ajman Authorities Explain the Main Reasons Behind Vehicle Fires

Authorities in Ajman have listed multiple reasons why a vehicle may catch fire in the summer and warned motorists to look after their vehicles’ maintenance.

Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of Centers Department at Ajman Civil Defense, has stated that the number of vehicle fire accidents increase significantly during the summer because of the high temperatures. Moreover, he confirmed that motorists’ lack of compliance regarding vehicle safety is also one of the main reasons for vehicles catching fire.

Some of the main reasons for fire hazards noted by him are listed below:

  • Improper electrical and chemical maintenance
  • Overheating of the engine
  • Leaving flammable materials inside the car. This includes lighters, perfumes, and hand sanitisers
  • Vehicle fires resulting from collisions and crashes
  • Not detecting flammable leaks, such as fuel, oil, or engine coolant water
  • Other car elements such as rubber, plastics, upholstery material, exhaust and spark plugs also play a major role in fire hazards

He emphasized that the motorists’ negligence when it comes to routine car maintenance such as failure in detecting leaks and replacing damaged parts is among the major causes of vehicle fire accidents.

Back in April, Dubai Police also prompted motorists to regularly inspect their vehicle. Brigadier Saif Muhair Al-Mazroui, Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, declared that failure to perform routine vehicle maintenance and availing the services of untrustworthy repair shops are among the major reasons for vehicle fire accidents.

He also added that unreliable mechanics examining electric parts and adding in new electric parts disproportionately is another reason. According to him, damaged tyres is another reason for fire hazards. “A driver’s only contact with the road is the tyres”, he said. “He further added that, “Motorists should not only replace any worn, bald or defective tyres but also perform regular air-pressure check-ups.”

What Can Motorists Do to Avoid Vehicle Fire Hazards?

Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Al Suwaidi urged the motorists to actively follow all vehicle safety measures. Some of the tips that he advised are listed below:

  • Routinely monitoring the engine coolant and engine oil levels
  • Keeping a fire extinguisher at close range in emergency cases
  • To prevent leakage or the danger of ignition, it is important to close the fuel tank cap tightly.
  • Performing all the regular routine-check ups to ensure that the car is in a good condition.
  • Driving carefully and switching off the engine while refuelling the vehicle
  • Motorist and occupants should avoid smoking inside the vehicle and keep a first-aid kit at hand.

What Can You Do With Your Fire Damaged Vehicle?

UAE drivers should always maintain necessary vehicle safety standards to prevent their vehicles from catching fires. However, it is possible that their car may become damaged due to an unfortunate fire incident. A fire damaged car can be a constant source of frustration for the owner. Depending on the state of the damage, they might choose to scrap it, sell it or get it repaired. Before choosing any of these options, the owner should get their car evaluated by an automotive expert to understand the accurate market value of a fire-damaged vehicle in the used car market. If the result of the car inspection reveals that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds the resale price of the vehicle, then it is recommended to sell the vehicle without overhauling.

Since selling such a vehicle privately can be extremely challenging, sellers can choose specialist car buying companies to sell their accident-damaged vehicles in the UAE. Unlike dealers or online classifieds, specialist car buying companies offer a fair and realistic market price of the vehicle that doesn’t incur any financial loss for the seller. Moreover, the process is completely safe, quick and hassle-free.
